Simply Customize Your Solar Light’s SettingsThis solar motion detector features 3 adjustable settings: LUX (light level) determines the level of darkness that must be reached for the light to turn on. TIME determines the duration of the light once motion is detected: 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 120 seconds. SENS (Sensitivity) determines the range of motion detection. |
How It Works?Solar panels convert sunlight into an electric current, they do not store power. Amorphous solar panels are created by spraying silicon onto glass in very thin layers, and are commonly known as thin film solar panels. This process allows them to be better at generating electricity in all lighting conditions, including cloudy or shady environments. Amorphous solar panels are best for smaller output needs, temporary set ups, and areas that do not receive predictable sun conditions. These solar panels ensure your lights will work anywhere, anytime! |

Customers like the performance of the lamp. They say that the system works well, allowing for a battery, and that it works great despite our harsh summer. The motion sensor seems to work well, and the lamp works well even on rainy and cloudy days. The process was pretty simple, and there were no major issues.

Customers like the brightness of the lamp. They mention that it provides sufficient light to illuminate their way just fine. They also say that it illuminates the entire porch, not just what's in front of it like a spot light. Customers also say the light is a convenient shed light and that all LEDs are still shining brightly. They say the inside light worked great even when the solar panel was receiving minimal light. Overall, customers are happy with the brightness and durability of the product.

Customers are mixed about the quality of the lamp. Some mention it's well-made and adequate for residential applications, while others say that it doesn't feel high quality and broke easily. The solar panel was offset and the light was brittle when frozen.

Customers are mixed about the adjustability of the lamp. Some mention it has great motion sensitivity, illumination time, and darkness. They say the sensitivity can be adjusted both on the motion sensor and the light sensor. However, others say that it does not allow for adjustment of the unit on a horizontal axis, only vertically up and down. Some customers also mention that the adjustment knobs are not linear, and they have a difficult time setting the senitivity and timer settings.

Customers are mixed about the motion detection of the lamp. Some mention that it's pretty nice, sensitive, and reliable. The motion detector seems to pick up motion pretty well and causes the lamp to light. However, others say that it isn't very good at close range, has a problem with the motion sensing circuit, and sometimes malfunctions.
"...Except the range of movement is better on the solar cell. 360 degrees of rotation, and 180 degrees of tilt...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the battery life of the lamp. Some mention that it has great battery life if used only for low traffic areas, while others say that the battery pack started to not hold a charge after 2 years.
"...This is concerning because the batteries would have likely drained completely had I not reset the light manually...." Read more
"...No battery replacements, no adjustments, no... nothing...." Read more

Update 9/20/2018: I bought & installed both units exactly 5 yrs ago and I have to say I am extremely impressed by continuous functionality and quality of build! Both units are working as they should just like the day I installed them, all LEDs are still shining brightly and battery charge through solar panels are still keeping these lights working!!!
You do have to pay attention to locating and aiming the solar panel. You want the panel to catch as much sun as possible. But the cord is decently long which allowed me to place the panel clear of a nearby tree and the stand of the panel allows for tilt adjustments. I made some minor adjustments over the first week or so when I thought to check the sun exposure the panel had and haven't had any problem with the light not being charged.
I do use a short "on time" to conserve battery power but raised the motion sensitivity a bit. If I'm gathering things up in the car, the light may kick off but all it takes is opening the car door to switch it back on.
I'm planning on adding a few more. Have a small storage shed that is in a rather dark part of the yard that was broken into once. Running 120 AC to it is doable but a pain. This is a much easier solution. And if you're not comfortable with working with household current at all, this is a great alternative.
I've read a few reviews that the screws strip easily. That part is true. I've plenty around so I swapped them out. Picking up at least a small pack of screws that suit your install needs might be a good idea. The provided screws leave something to be desired. Also some kind of cable ties or such to secure the wire from the solar panel if you need to locate it a fair distance from the light to catch the sunlight.
Addition, one year later (March 12, 2014):
Not sure I understand the negative reviews I see here. I have two of these lights, ordered about a month apart last year. They've both now been through heavy rains, one amazingly weird hail storm (I've never seen hail fall like rain in "sheets" but "sheets" of up to marble sized chunks of ice cascading off the roof... it was... interesting), high winds, high winds that threw tree branches and pine cones, and hot Central Texas summer temperatures. I've done nothing more than reposition them once to space them out a bit better. No battery replacements, no adjustments, no... nothing.
Yeah, they're not halogens. But they're great to light the way from the truck to the front door. I keep the timing setting short to save battery power (especially for nights like last night when the winds kicked up again and all my motion sensor lights were trying to do disco lighting or something like that). These units kick on and light my way just fine. They're actually surprisingly bright and much sturdier than I expected.
I'm planing on replacing the 120 AC powered light on the deck with one of these soon. Electricity costs money. Sunshine is free...

I find the dials for distance and time to be fairly accurate, though the LUX dial is somewhat finnicky. I wouldn't say this is necessarily a bad thing, I just find that it took a little while to set up to where I wanted it and I imagine I'll have to check and change this as the seasons pass and fall rolls around.
I suppose this fine tuning could even be considered a good thing since one doesn't want the light turning on anytime something moves at the first sign of dusk, thereby spending all the stored energy too quickly.
The light that the LEDs throw is quite stark (as is to be expected with an LED) so I would say that it has more of a practical application rather than to light one's path as they approach the house. If you're looking to provide some visibility to guests visiting in the evening, your best bet would be to go with a halogen or some other lamp that emits a warmer light because "welcome" just isn't a message this system sends.
Overall, really good value. So far, very pleased with the purchase and it suits our needs well.
